The HOST Project, which has been running successfully since 2005, brings together staff and students from Lincoln Minster School and the schools in Oravita, south-west Romania.
Borne of the desire to bring friendship and financial help to those less well off than ourselves, the project has had a lasting effect on all those who have been involved with it, particularly those who have participated in the summer camps.
Each year a group of teachers and students from Year 10 spends a week in Oravita and its unspoilt surroundings, at camp and in project work alongside young Romanians. Work has included transforming a playground for a kindergarten, and renovating a building purchased with HOST funds to provide a community centre for the town with internet café, meeting rooms and women’s refuge.
The whole school has been involved in fundraising activities from sponsored swims and slims to Romanian evenings and music concerts. Girl boarders get to know the Romanian gap year students who spend a year with us to experience our culture, improve their English and save a small amount of money to help them on their way to university.
HOST has brought an enriching experience to everyone who has participated in the project. If you would like to learn more about the HOST project, or get involved, please contact the HOST team via the Senior School Office
