The U12 girls hockey team played in their first fixture on Tuesday this week; an invitational tournament at Hymers College, Hull.

The rules were modified for the tournament to maximise pitch time and goal scoring opportunities. The first match got off to a fast and furious start, and goals soon came in the form of the new penalty shuffle rule. It was brilliant, despite the pressure!

The girls won the first match 3-2 against Hymers (pink), adapting their playing tactics and realising that they must get their feet out of the way quickly and think about some ‘nifty’ stick work. The girls played fabulously throughout the tournament only losing one game.

The results were as follows:
LMS v Hymers Pink 3-2
LMS v Hymers Red 1-1
LMS v St Olaves, York 3-12
LMS v St Olaves b 4-2
LMS v Hymers green 2-2
LMS V Hymers Pink re-match 2-1

What followed was a tense penalty shuffle shoot out with the Girls taking on the opposing goalie. This was a nail-biting moment as it went to sudden death, with the team finally losing our last positioning game. Overall it was great fun and a wonderful experience, we are very proud of them.

Following on from the successful tournament from the previous day, the girls then had to take on the challenge of playing against Hill House- with normal 7-a-side rules this time!

The match was end to end and very even. LMS opened the scoring, but Hill House quickly responed with a goal from a short corner. For some of our girls this was their first experience of wearing the face masks and something that they quickly adapted to.

At half time it was all even. The second half continued in the same evenly matched vein and we had some very excited parents shouting form the side lines. At the end it finished 3-3.

Players of the match chosen by the oppostion were: Frankie L and Holly I.
