Our Year 10 Graphics students have been using text and image to respond visually to the theme of conflict in the context of current issues including politics, terrorism and crisis that the UK and World are affected by.
Their work is inspired by British values and also links with the work they have done surrounding the Magna Carta. The artwork illustrated a selection of poems written by Year 7 English students in response to William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
Pupils working on the graphics were encouraged to dig deep, think, create, question and provoke.
Ms Corral, Art & Graphics Design Teacher and LMS Knight’s Team and IDeas Festival Coordinator, said:
“I initially went to see Mrs Hewitt – our Head of English – with the idea of illustrating Charter of the Forest inspired poems but when I came across the Conflict poems written by her Year 7 students I chose them for the poignancy in light of current news events.
“I am glad the task centred around these provoking written pieces, as it has given our Year 10 Graphics students a great opportunity to respond to a creative brief from the heart. The quality of their visual outcomes speaks for itself.”
The project also formed part of the month-long, national cultural celebration – IDeas Festival – run by United Learning; find out more.
