Celebrating the new St Mary's Preparatory School
Posted 13/10/2011
On Tuesday 11th October, the Lower, Upper and Senior Schools, along with friends and family, gathered at Lincoln Cathedral for a special service of thanksgiving for the creation of St Mary's Preparatory School, the Preparatory School of Lincoln Minster School. This was the first coming together of the whole school in the historic cathedral setting, and we're pleased to say it went fantastically well.
The service began with the Lincoln Cathedral Choir singing Rest by Banks at the West End of the Nave - the beauty of the music and words was truly spine tingling. The service continued with inspiring readings from staff and pupils, more glorious singing from both the Cathedral Choir and the Upper School Choir, and a wonderful performance of Hosanna from the St Mary's children. We're particularly proud of our Lower School children during the service - we know how hard it is to sit quietly for over an hour!
We were also honoured to receive an address from the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Lord Carey of Clifton, Chairman of the United Church Schools Trust, who talked about the importance of family and his love for the Charlotte Bronte classic, Jane Eyre; in particular its message of "friendship, character and the importance of belonging in a family." He concluded with some motivational words for all our pupils: "We are ambitious for you. We want you to be the best you can possibly be."
That's a message that we can all take to heart as the St Mary's and Lincoln Minster Schools move forward. We hope that everyone who attended enjoyed the celebration of our new Preparatory School and look forward to many more inspiring and memorable occasions in the future.
