Meeting and learning from challenges

Challenge and adventure are not words normally associated with a curriculum, but we feel they are important and we ensure that students are appropriately encouraged and challenged to take their learning forward.

For some pupils, the challenges may be getting started on essay planning or mastering chemical equations. On another occasion, the challenge may be physical, such as defending a goal or even climbing a mountain. For others, it may be going on that first trip overseas without parents or doing social work in a third world country. 

By the end of the Sixth Form, the prospect of facing new challenges is something Lincoln Minster Senior School pupils can take in their stride.

A broad, balanced curriculum

Lincoln Minster Senior School has an impressive academic tradition with excellent examination results. A broad and balanced curriculum places equal value on cultural, technological, scientific, linguistic and creative ability, with most pupils studying between 8 and 10 GCSEs.

The National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies are used as a framework for English and Mathematics.

Personal, Social and Health Education is taught weekly by the form teacher.

But the curriculum at Lincoln Minster School, both in and beyond the classroom, is so much richer than these lists can convey. With many opportunities for performance and many challenges spurring pupils on to greater achievement - some of which are explored in this section of the website - the school creates a superb learning environment designed to bring out the 'best in everyone'.
