Music is at our very heart

Music is absolutely central to life at Lincoln Minster Senior School and children are encouraged to participate whether through playing, composing or attending concerts and recitals. Our links with Lincoln Cathedral underline this musical focus, and the experience of hearing music in the wonderful cathedral setting is one that our students will take with them and remember forever.

The Music Department has just celebrated another batch of excellent A-level results. Following on from outstanding results over the last six years, nine students finished their music course this year with six achieving A grades, including two at A*! Well done to all of them. Congratulations also go to Roxanne Summerfield who left us in 2008 to begin an organ scholarship at Christ's College in Cambridge and has just graduated with a 1st in Music.

This year we also have no fewer than four students going on to Music Colleges, three with scholarships. Both mezzo-soprano Olivia Warburton and percussionist Oliver Butterworth are taking up scholarship places at the Royal Academy of Music this September. Olivia is a former chorister in Lincoln Cathedral and Oliver, who holds the ATCL diploma, has just achieved an A* grade in his A-level Music. In addition, Henry Alexander has been awarded a place to study the guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and pianist Bethany-Mae Jerem begins her course in Glasgow at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. All four students have given so much to Lincoln Minster School and we know they all have bright futures ahead of them.

With the opening of our new Music Hall in 2011, Lincoln Minster School now boasts state-of-the-art music facilities that are second to none. They are a symbol of greater things to come for our music students of the future.
