Playing to win, or playing just for the joy of it
Sport and Physical Education at Lincoln Minster School are an important and highly cherished part of school life. Through the curriculum, extra-curricular clubs, the house system and representative sport, we aim to foster and promote healthy attitudes to physical activity throughout a student's school career and, more importantly, for life. A wide range of activities are made available to boys and girls, from talented individuals who have particular interests, to those whose motivation is more recreational and social.
There is a wide variety of sport on offer enhanced by our new Sports Hall complete with cricket nets. We have use of some excellent facilities in close proximity to the school, including our own mini astro turf, eight all-weather tennis courts, and the Lindum Cricket, Rugby and Squash Club. We are also making ever-increasing use of the sailing facilities on the outskirts of Lincoln.
The major team games are rugby, football, cricket and athletics for boys and hockey, netball, rounders, soccer and athletics for girls. We also have school teams in rugby 7's, cross country, squash, tennis, polo and cheerleading, to name but a few. Karate is very popular from an early age and a number of pupils have achieved their black belts. Outdoor pursuit activities such as climbing, walking, cycling and sailing can be done during lesson times, clubs or through the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
There is an established and comprehensive fixture list with matches against local state schools as well as independent schools from Lincolnshire and the surrounding counties. Sports tours both in Britain and abroad are always a great experience and prove very popular.
GCSE Physical Education is a popular option for Year 10/11 pupils and each year there is a healthy take-up at AS/A2 level.
