Mrs Muir is leading assemblies this week based on the theme of Mental Fortitude to link in with the World Health Organisation’s recognition of World Mental Health Day.
World Mental Health Day (10th October) aims to recognise the issues surrounding mental health and the actions of the organisations that offer support.
In assemblies, Mrs Muir is showing pupils a video clip of the inspirational speech Admiral William McRaven, 9th Commander of the SEALS, given to University of Texas students. Admiral McRaven delivers an address in which he talks about how the very basic elements of SEAL training develop the sort of mental fortitude that we can all benefit from, including:
“If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.”
His speech includes lessons for us all, view it online: Admiral William McRaven Speech.
