We believe in providing a broad range of experiences to help develop a love of learning. We are also careful to make sure that classes are a sensible size to allow for positive social interaction between children and to ensure that each individual has their voice heard.

The Curriculum
When your child starts with us in Nursery, they will join the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which provides a broad, developmentally appropriate and flexible curriculum catering for a wide range of needs and abilities. The children access the curriculum through practical experiences and structured play activities both in the indoor and outdoor environment.
The Start of your Child’s Learning Journey
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the start of each child’s own learning journey and is designed to build the foundations of their learning in a safe, supportive and caring environment filled with opportunities for everyone.
Learning at Lincoln Minster School is fun, exciting and inviting, with all children learning through playing and by doing. We offer a broad curriculum linked through topics to provide opportunities for the children to extend experiences and further their learning and knowledge. Art, Drama, Music and Sport are key parts of the experience.

The Three Prime Areas of Learning and Development
Personal, Social and Emotional: helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings.
Communication and Language: giving children opportunities to experience a language rich environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves’ to speak and listen in a many different situations.
Physical: providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. To help them understand the importance of good personal care and to make healthy choices in relation to food.

Literacy: encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems and other written materials) to ignite their interest.
Mathematics: providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, and to describe shapes, spaces and measures.
Understanding the World: guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Expressive Arts and Design: enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through activities in art, music, movement, dance and role-play.
