The achievements of our pupils position us as one of the top independent schools in the East Midlands.
We do not believe, however, that results alone show the true measure of a school. We are committed to the individual needs and enthusiasms of each pupil. It is far more important that each individual achieves their very best.
A truly excellent education is about much more than academic achievement alone: it is also about developing a passion for learning, capacity for independent thinking, moral values, self-confidence without arrogance, and a broad range of interests that extend beyond the confines of the classroom. In short, it is developing the whole person, to ensure that each pupil leaves here ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
We had a standout year for GCSE achievement, with 10% of all entries awarded the top grade 9, double the national average, while 41% of grades were 9 to 7 and 61% were 9 to 6. These outcomes reflect not only the academic capability of our students but also their determination, talent and the consistent hard work they have demonstrated throughout their studies. The results are further testament to the high-quality teaching, guidance and pastoral support provided by our dedicated staff, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their potential.
Head, Jon Tyler, commented: “These results reflect the dedication of our students and staff alike. They are an excellent foundation for the exciting opportunities awaiting our students in the Sixth Form, and a reflection of the strong culture of learning and support that underpins our school community.”
It has also been a record-breaking year for A Level achievement, with 35% of all A Level/Level 3 grades awarded at A*/A – well above the averages for Lincolnshire (22.1%) and the UK (28.3%). A further 84% of grades fell within the A*–C range, reflecting both the academic capability of our students and the high-quality teaching and pastoral support they receive.
This year, 85% of students secured a place at their first-choice university, including competitive courses at prestigious institutions such as Durham University, the University of York, and the University of St Andrews. Our students’ success also demonstrates the impact of the tailored guidance provided throughout the UCAS process, helping them navigate applications and make informed choices about their future.
These outcomes highlight the consistent standards of academic excellence and support that underpin learning at the school and prepare students effectively for the next stage of their educational journey. We look forward to following the Class of 2025 through our Alumni Programme and seeing the achievements of our Old Minsterians in the years to come.
We are proud to have received a successful ISI inspection in 2024, after meeting all the necessary standards and requirements.
The report notes that our pupils demonstrate a “strong work ethic and commitment to their education, achieving well at both GCSE and A-Level.”
It also commends the confidence and articulacy of our pupils, thriving in a “strong climate of kindness, respect and inclusivity” and highlights the skill and dedication of our teaching staff.
