At Lincoln Minster School, we take great care to ensure every family feels warmly welcomed into our community. Our admissions process is supportive, clear and personal, guiding you from your first enquiry right through to your child’s first day and beyond.
We appreciate that choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions you will make, and we are here to support you every step of the way. If you're relocating to Lincoln, find out how we can help, here.
Our friendly Admissions Team is always happy to help. You can contact us by telephone on 01522 551300 or by email at admissions@lincolnminsterschool.co.uk.
Before applying, you may wish to speak to us about your child’s needs, ask any questions you may have, book an Individual Tour, or arrange a Taster Day to experience life at Lincoln Minster School.
Applications can be made at any time of the year. Once all requirements are met, pupils can often join us very quickly if there is space available in the year group – sometimes even in as little as one day of an application being submitted.
To apply, we require:
We may request permission to speak with your child’s current or most recent teachers and tutors. This is particularly important where additional support needs (SEN) are identified, as it allows us to ensure the right support is in place for every child, while maintaining the high-quality provision we offer all pupils.
Our Head gives thoughtful consideration to every application, focusing on each child’s behaviour, effort and approach to learning, which are qualities central to our school community.
For Year 7 entry, pupils sit Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT4), which help us monitor progress and support learning. The results are used solely to determine Mathematics groups, while all other subjects are taught in mixed ability classes. This process takes place in January, and for applications received after this point, the CAT4 assessment is taken at the time of application.
Decisions are usually communicated within five days, although this may vary depending on when the application is received.
If successful, families will receive an Offer and Acceptance Pack, which includes a welcome letter from our Head, the contract, and all the key information to help you and your child prepare to join our school community.
If an application is unsuccessful, we will contact the primary email address provided on the application form with an explanation of the outcome.
Before your child begins, you will receive a comprehensive Welcome Pack filled with everything you need to feel fully prepared for the exciting journey ahead. If you are starting at the beginning of the academic year (September), you will receive your Welcome Pack around May. If you are joining us in-year, we will send your Welcome Pack straightaway.
We will be in touch ahead of your child’s start date with pre-enrolment information to help you feel fully prepared for this exciting new chapter. Our team is here to support every step of the transition and to ensure both you and your child feel confident and welcomed into our community. Your child will receive constant support from staff and teachers, as well as an assigned buddy to help them settle into school life, make friends, and quickly feel at home.
Once you join the Lincoln Minster School family, we'll support you and your child throughout their entire educational and developmental journey with us. Parents are invited to become part of our Friends of Lincoln Minster School (FoLMS) committee, a welcoming community of parents, staff and friends of the school with a mission to make the school a better place for pupils to learn.
For Year 7 entry, pupils take Cognitive Ability Tests (CATs), which help us track progress and support learning. These are used solely for Mathematics grouping, while all other subjects are taught in mixed ability classes.
We aim to be as inclusive as possible. Entrance testing at Year 7 is used primarily to help monitor progress and assist with grouping rather than for selection. This includes a cognitive ability assessment. We also consider school reports for Year 7 and other Senior entry points to assess suitability, placing great importance on meeting the family, particularly in the Prep School. Prospective pupils are warmly invited to spend a taster day with us.
Our main entry points are Reception, Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12, although we welcome applications at other stages depending on availability. At every stage, what matters most is not any specific ability level, but a pupil’s commitment to working to the best of their ability and embracing the ethos of the school.
