At Lincoln Minster School, our students are happy, respectful and engaged in their learning. This term, we have introduced YONDR as a proactive, student-first step to support focus, wellbeing and positive relationships throughout the school day.
Introducing YONDR at Lincoln Minster School: Supporting Positive Behaviour, Happy Students and Strong Achievement
At Lincoln Minster School, we are proud of our strong, positive school culture. Our students behave well, treat one another with respect, and engage positively with learning. Our ethos that students should be happy and achieving, is already lived out across the school community.
This term, we have introduced Yondr for our Key Stage 3 students to help them be more present, engaged and connected throughout the school day.
A Proactive, Student-First Decision
Yondr is a preventative and supportive measure, introduced to help students get the very best from their school day. Mobile phones are a normal part of modern life, but even in positive school environments they can create unnecessary distractions and social pressures, particularly for younger students.
By setting clear, consistent boundaries around phone use, we are helping our students stay focused, present and engaged, both in lessons and during social time.
Phones are placed in YONDR pouches at the start of the day and remain with students, but inaccessible, until the end of the school day.
Supporting Wellbeing, Belonging and Behaviour
Our behaviour culture at LMS is already very strong, and YONDR helps to protect it. With reduced access to phones during the school day, students are more likely to:
- Engage confidently in face-to-face conversations
- Build positive, respectful relationships
- Feel less social pressure during break and lunch times
- Be fully present in the school community
This supports wellbeing and reinforces the calm, purposeful atmosphere that defines life here at Lincoln Minster School.
Helping Students Achieve
Focused classrooms enable great teaching and deep learning. YONDR supports LMS students to concentrate more fully, participate confidently and make the most of every lesson.
By reducing distractions, we are protecting learning time and supporting students to achieve their academic potential. Introducing YONDR is not about restriction or punishment. It is a thoughtful, proportionate step that aligns with our values and our commitment to student wellbeing and achievement.
A message from Mrs Brigden, Designated Safeguarding Lead:
"I am delighted with the roll out of the YONDR Pouches and am confident that this will have a hugely positive impact on our students mental health, wellbeing and overall educational outcomes. A great step forward that demonstrates our dedication to excellent pastoral care."
By introducing YONDR this term, we are taking a proactive approach to supporting student wellbeing, focus and success. It is one of the ways we continue to ensure our students are happy, achieving and supported every day.
