Pastoral Care & Wellbeing

Pupil wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do.

At Lincoln Minster School, we prioritise a child-centered and holistic approach to nurturing your child, allowing them to thrive. In our caring and supportive environment, students develop strong friendships and relationships with their peers. Our teachers work diligently to ensure that pupils feel secure and happy while achieving their best.

We are proud to be recognised as the Independent School of the Year for Student Wellbeing in the national Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2023, as well as a STEER Champion School. These accolades reflect our strong commitment to creating a happy, supportive, and nurturing environment for every child.

Wellbeing at the Heart of Learning

We believe wellbeing is essential to both personal growth and academic success. Our school values respect, kindness and excellence shape daily life and create a nurturing community.

Our pastoral curriculum includes workshops, guest speakers and national wellbeing initiatives, encouraging pupils to reflect, connect and care for themselves and others. Mindfulness is woven into daily routines through calming, hands-on activities, including:

  • Candle-lit reading time

  • Sensory nature walks

  • Calm listening time

  • Sensory play using mud, sand, and water

  • Creating natural artwork

These simple but powerful moments help children regulate their emotions, build self-awareness and develop resilience.

STEER Champion School

We are proud to be recognised as a STEER Champion School, highlighting our commitment to early intervention and proactive pastoral care.

Using the STEER Tracking tool, we are able to track pupils’ social and emotional development with precision. This helps us identify where a child may need additional support, even before challenges become visible.

Our pastoral team uses this insight to provide personalised strategies that build resilience, confidence and emotional regulation. By acting early, we create a safety net around every pupil, ensuring no child is overlooked and everyone feels supported.

Outdoor learning

Outdoor learning is fundamental to our educational approach. We encourage children to explore, ask questions and discover the world around them, reinforcing that learning occurs everywhere, not just in the classroom.

Mindful Monsters Programme

Mindful Monsters Programme

Our ‘Mindful Monsters’ initiative uses a rhyming storybook to teach seven positive qualities, each represented by a colourful monster.

Pupils who show kindness, focus or calmness are rewarded with stickers linked to these monsters. It’s a fun, accessible way to build emotional intelligence and celebrate positive behaviours.

Mental Health Champions

Pupils in Years 5 and 6 are trained as mental-health champions. Through interactive lessons and activities, they learn practical ways to support their peers and themselves.

They explore the importance of sleep, exercise and talking to trusted adults, while developing empathy and leadership skills. These champions help create a culture where talking openly about emotions and mental health is the norm.
