This recognition highlights the significant impact of the STEER Tracking programme across our Preparatory, Senior and Sixth Form. At Lincoln Minster School, we believe that students should be happy and achieve — in that order. The STEER framework supports this belief by helping us understand and nurture the wellbeing of every child, ensuring that emotional health serves as the foundation for both academic and personal success.
Supporting Wellbeing at Every Stage
Wellbeing and mental health are central to school life. They are integrated into both our curriculum and our pastoral care systems. Building on its success in the Senior School, the STEER Tracking programme was introduced across Key Stage 2 last year, allowing us to better understand and support pupils’ emotional development throughout their educational journey.
STEER is an innovative wellbeing assessment tool that helps schools identify pupils who may need additional support, even when their challenges aren’t immediately visible. Through short, secure online assessments completed up to three times a year, pupils reflect on key aspects of emotional development, including trust, self-disclosure and adaptability.
Turning Insight into Action
The information gathered provides staff with a deeper understanding of how pupils are feeling and developing. It allows us to take proactive, compassionate action, offering timely guidance and tailored support when needed. This ensures that every child at Lincoln Minster School receives the appropriate care at the right time.
Our use of STEER also enhances the school’s safeguarding practices, helping us to identify emerging wellbeing needs early and address them effectively. By employing an evidence-based approach, our pastoral care remains informed, consistent and responsive to each individual’s journey.
