Lincoln Minster School - Key Staff
Jon became Head of LMS in September 2022, after leading a successful turnaround of Lucton School in Herefordshire as Interim Headmaster. Prior to that, he was Deputy Head (Academic) of Dauntsey’s School for six years during a period of record growth and results for the school. With a first-class honours degree from the University of Durham (where he was awarded the History Prize), Jon has also been a Head of History, Housemaster and Head of Gifted and Talented at previous HMC schools.
Jon's priorities are simple: he wants pupils to be happy and to achieve - and in that order. He had what he describes as a life-changing experience at an independent school himself as a teenager, benefiting from a bursary for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, and he is determined for others to have the best possible education. He won a national teaching prize from O2 Learn in 2012 and has always enjoyed leading extra-curricular activities alongside his teaching, most notably coaching football teams to national success as ISFA champions.
Mark has almost 30 years' experience specialising in the Primary phase of education. He gained a BEd (Hons) from Sheffield Hallam University in 1994 and took up his first teaching position that year. Leading with passion and always showing a determination to engage children with their learning, he has taught across all year groups of the primary range, with a significant part of his early career within Key Stage 1, for which he specifically trained. Mark has taught in schools across Lincolnshire in a number of roles, including time as a Deputy and Headteacher of a primary school. He joined Lincoln Minster Prep School in 2014 as Head of English and becoming the Deputy Head in 2016. Following the previous Headteacher's retirement, Mark was proud to be appointed as Head of the Prep School in 2021.
After seven years as an Assistant Headteacher at a large Lincolnshire state school, Alex joined LMS in June 2021. Alex started out as a professional actor, learning his craft at the Oxford School of Drama, before training to teach at Goldsmiths College. As a teacher, he cut his teeth at a challenging London inner city school, delivering sustained outstanding results as the Head of Drama, working with students from deprived backgrounds. Alex has considerable experience as a Senior Leader, having been in charge of both the pastoral side of a large school of 1300 students (including 5 years as a Designated Safeguarding Lead) and subsequently leading on all aspects of Quality of Education. He was also in the very first cohort of the nationally-recognised Exemplary Leadership Programme, has reviewed schools as part of the Challenge Partners programme and currently supports other United Learning Independent schools as part of their review process.
Charlotte joined Lincoln Minster School in 2023 from Haileybury College. She has experience as a Senior Girls Housemistress and Designated Safeguarding Lead as well as teaching Geography, coaching sailing and leading the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Charlotte is passionate about education and is currently studying for a Doctorate of Education at Nottingham University.
Jane joined Lincoln Minster School in September 2019 as Bursar following 17 years in the RAF as a Commissioned Officer taking on roles in HR, Finance, Media and Estate Management, including overseas tours. These allowed her to develop leadership and strategic analysis skills to be able to lead the Support Team at Lincoln Minster School in line with the school’s strategic aims. Prior to joining the RAF, she held a number of finance jobs in the private sector leading to becoming a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accounts and an MSc in Financial Leadership.
Rebecca joined Lincoln Minster School in 2021, moving from the University of Lincoln’s Careers & Employability Team into her role with us as Head of Careers. A Languages graduate of Newcastle University, Rebecca started her career in the Higher Education sector and has a background in student recruitment and admissions, which proves highly valuable in her current role supporting Year 13s with UCAS applications. After moving into the area of careers and employability in 2015, Rebecca gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Career Development from NTU and is a fully qualified Careers Adviser. As a member of the CDI (Career Development Institute), trainee Assessor for the Quality in Careers Standard and Cluster Lead for careers staff in other United Learning Schools, Rebecca is an active advocate for careers education and aims to support all pupils to find their next best step through impartial advice and guidance and an engaging careers programme.
Ms Tweedale joined Lincoln Minster School in 2014 as Head of Business and Economics. During her time at the school, she has completed her Master’s in Education, supported Young Enterprise teams in getting to the regional finals, and supported teams in the BASE (Business, Accountancy and Skills in Education) competition, helping them to reach the national finals. Ms Tweedale has also successfully implemented the vocational Cambridge Technical in Business course as an alternative to the Business A-Level at the school.
During her time at LMS she enjoyed working with Sixth Formers, and was successful in achieving her aspiration of becoming the Head of Sixth Form. She thoroughly enjoys her new role, which she started in September 2022. Ms Tweedale is looking forward to continuing to work with the students to further develop the Sixth Form.
Trained in Translation and Interpreting, Mrs Cobo's love for the English language brought her to England almost 20 years ago. Here, she discovered she had a passion for teaching and, most importantly, pastoral care. She has been a proud member of the LMS community since 2008 and, after several years as Head of Year, was appointed Assistant Head Pastoral KS4 in September 2022.
Claire joined Lincoln Minster School in 2008 as a teacher of PE and Games. During her time at LMS, Claire has been part of the PE department and, more specifically, the tennis lead. The tennis highlights so far include winning the Lincolnshire LTA Tennis Educator and School of the Year Award four years in a row, whilst also being in the top 20 school rankings for boys tennis in 2021 and girls in 2017. Alongside this, there has been a growing tennis programme which often sees LMS players from the programme in the top 16 Nationally playing in Lawn Tennis Association tournaments.
Claire has always believed that education does not just include academic outcomes but that pupils should leave as confident and all-rounded individuals and that pastoral care is the core and heart of the School. Claire often talks about the 'family feel and community' at LMS and remembers the first time she stepped into the school and saw that every teacher knew every student and the mutual respect was apparent; the atmosphere, buzz and excitement for learning, each and every student proud to be wearing the school blazer and badge.
In September 2022, after four years as a Head of Year, Claire was appointed Assistant Head and Head of Keystage 3, the area which she is most passionate about.
Claire is looking forward to her new role instilling her core values of inclusion and individualism whilst teaching students to think intensively and critically with the purpose being to provide the things they need in order to develop in an orderly, sequential way into respected members of society.
