Exciting Visits and Residential Stays

Our pupils can also enjoy a range of exciting educational and residential trips. This not only supports their learning, but also provides them with unique character forming experiences and lasting memories. Recent destinations include Cambridge University, the British Library, the National Theatre, and residential stays in Colorado and Peru.

PSHE and RSE

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is an important part of the curriculum. Within these lessons pupils will cover topics on health and wellbeing, careers, relationships, living in the wider world and celebrating difference.

Our Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) provision will give students the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds, not just intimate ones. Learn more about our PSHE and RSE programme:

Co-Curricular

From Sailing to Cryptography, we offer a wide range of co-curricular clubs and activities. These activities provide pupils with the opportunity to pursue a passion, explore their interests, stretch their imagination and develop new skills. Scheduled both within the school day and before/after school, we aim to ensure that our co-curricular offering is available at a time that suits most.

Year 9 Options

Throughout Year 9, pupils will also start to consider their future with career lessons. At the end of the academic year, pupils will discuss their options with the Head of Year and plan which subjects to continue at GCSE level in Years 10 and 11 (KS4).

There are six compulsory core subjects that will continue to be part of the curriculum such as Mathematics, English, Core Modern Foreign Language and GCSE Double Science. Pupils then study their additional four chosen options, gaining 9 GCSEs in total. Pupils also benefit from PSHE, Games and Careers Guidance although these are not examined.

Following consultations with pupils and staff, an option pattern will be issued from which pupils must then choose their option subjects.

Subject Options

From September 2018, all GCSE subjects now follow the new specifications as per the curriculum reforms. The GCSE grading scale of 9-1 is used, with 9 being the top grade.
