Archery

Archery is offered as a popular senior co-curricular activity, giving pupils the opportunity to develop precision, focus and control. Sessions begin with soft archery to build technique and confidence before progressing to professional-standard equipment as pupils advance.

Programme

Thursdays 13:15 (Co-curricular)

Coach

The activity is led by Mr Whiting, a qualified Archery Instructor and experienced teacher who provides expert guidance and ensures a safe, supportive environment for all participants.

Facilities

Archery sessions are held at the Senior School, using the dedicated archery nets on the playground. This secure and well-equipped area allows pupils to practice safely and refine their skills under supervision.

Badminton

Badminton is a fast-paced and inclusive sport that helps pupils develop agility, coordination and teamwork. Delivered through both the Physical Education and Sport curriculum and as a co-curricular activity, it offers opportunities for all pupils to improve their technique, enjoy friendly competition and build confidence on the court.

Programme

Wednesdays 13:15 (Co-curricular). Pupils take part in training drills, match play and friendly fixtures designed to encourage both individual and doubles performance.

Coach

Badminton is led by Mr Cairns, who provides expert guidance and support for pupils of all abilities, helping them develop technical skill and sportsmanship in a fun and competitive environment.

Facilities

Sessions are held in the Senior School Sports Hall, which houses four full-sized badminton courts. The spacious indoor setting allows for consistent practice and friendly matches throughout the school year.

Cricket

Cricket is offered as a senior co-curricular activity. Our facilities include full-sized indoor cricket nets and a popular bowling machine, which allows pupils to develop their batting skills in a controlled environment.

Cross Country

Our preparatory cross-country club has enjoyed great success over the years, inspiring pupils to challenge themselves through endurance running. At senior level, the running club continues to build on this enthusiasm as a co-curricular pursuit.

Dance

Ballet

Focuses on posture, strength and control, building strong foundations in classical technique.


Modern Dance

Following the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabus, encourages expression, rhythm and theatrical movement, combining stretching, strengthening and coordination with musicality and style.


Musical Theatre

Blends singing, dancing and acting to nurture confidence, stage presence and creative storytelling through performance.

Programme

Dance classes are offered as part of the co-curricular programme across the Preparatory School with regular opportunities for pupils to train, rehearse and perform throughout the school year.

Dance sessions take place in the sports hall at Preparatory School.

Duke of Edinburgh

Our delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award seamlessly facilitates personal growth and adventure, offering challenging expeditions across inspiring landscapes. Pupils at all levels build friendships, expand their skills and commit to volunteering, physical activity and personal interests as part of this dynamic programme.

Programme

  • Bronze Level: 2-day expedition; 3 months volunteering; 3 months physical fitness; 3 months skills.

  • Silver Level: 3-day expedition; 6 months volunteering; 6 months physical fitness; 6 months skills.

  • Gold Level: 4-day expedition; 12 months volunteering; 12 months physical fitness; 12 months skills.
    Expedition modules include navigation, cooking and camp-craft, kit management, countryside code and conservation, and weather awareness.

Coach / Leader

The Award is led by Mrs Gladwin, who oversees the full Duke of Edinburgh programme at the School (details to be listed on staff directory).

Facilities / Locations

Practice expeditions are conducted in and around Lincoln’s local areas (such as Willingham Woods), with progression to larger expeditions in Sherwood Forest (Bronze level) and the Peak District (Silver and Gold levels).

Football

Football is available as an after-school club at our Preparatory School, supported by weekly coaching from Lincoln City Football Club. At Senior level, both men’s and women’s teams train under the guidance of Lee Frecklington, former Lincoln City player and our Co-Curricular Football Coach.

Judo

Judo is a dynamic self-defence martial art that promotes discipline, respect and self-confidence. Pupils learn key techniques in a structured and encouraging environment, developing strength, coordination and focus. Progress is recognised each term through the achievement of coloured belts and stripes, helping pupils set goals and celebrate success.

Programme

Wednesdays 16:15 to 17:15.
New members can sign up through WisePay, with the first lesson offered free of charge.

Coach

Cassey Borrill is a four-time Great Britain Champion and Youth Olympic Silver Medallist with over 20 years of coaching experience. Her passion for judo and expertise in nurturing young athletes make her sessions both inspiring and enjoyable for all ages and abilities.

Facilities

Judo sessions take place at the Senior School, where pupils train on high-quality padded mats designed for safety and comfort during practice.

Hockey

Hockey is taught throughout Preparatory School at Lindum’s Hockey Pitch and within the Senior School curriculum. It is also offered as a co-curricular activity at Preparatory level, promoting skill progression and team spirit.

Horse Polo

The Lincoln Minster School Equestrian Co-Curricular Programme offers pupils the exciting opportunity to take part in polo, riding and jumping, ensuring there is something for every horse enthusiast. Polo develops teamwork, precision and horsemanship, combining athletic skill with strategy and control.

Programme

Wednesdays from 16:00 to 18:00. Sessions are held year-round, providing regular opportunities for pupils to train, compete and develop their confidence both on and off the field. The programme caters to all ability levels, from beginners to experienced riders.

Coaches

Pupils are guided by expert instructors at Leadenham Polo Club, supported by dedicated Lincoln Minster School staff who ensure that all training sessions are safe, engaging and inclusive.

Facilities

The programme is based at Leadenham Polo Club, a premier equestrian venue offering high-quality horses, fields and training facilities. Pupils have access to professional instruction and a welcoming community that supports both learning and competitive play.

Netball

Netball is introduced through the curriculum and extended as a popular co-curricular activity, enjoyed by both male and female athletes.

Rowing

Rowing is the newest addition to our sporting programme, launched in 2025 in partnership with British Rowing and based at the Lincoln Rowing site. Pupils quickly embraced the sport, fundraising for their own kit and competing in their first races with great enthusiasm.

Coach

James Sockell brings over 40 years of rowing experience as a Level 2 British Rowing coach, having competed in Masters events across Europe and the USA. A former RAF rower of 30 years, he co-founded the Lincoln Rowing Centre in 2006.

Rugby

Rugby is introduced through the curriculum, providing pupils with opportunities to develop both technical skills and strong camaraderie.

Sailing

Lincoln Minster School offers sailing in partnership with the Lincoln District Sailing Association (LDSA) through the Limpets Sailing Programme. This exciting co-curricular opportunity allows pupils to develop confidence, teamwork and technical sailing skills on the water in a safe and supportive environment. Thursday from 17:00 to 19:00 (after school).

Coaches

The sailing sessions are led by Malcolm Barrett, a former Lincoln Minster School computing teacher and experienced sailor, supported by a team of qualified LDSA instructors who bring professional expertise and a passion for developing young sailors.

Facilities

Training and sailing activities take place at Apex Lakes in South Hykeham, providing excellent open-water conditions and high-quality facilities ideal for both beginner and experienced sailors.

Squash

Lincoln Minster School has a proud tradition of success in squash, with nine teams reaching the National Squash Finals in 2025. Under the expert guidance of our lead coach, Fran Wallis, the 2024 Midlands Over 60s Ladies Champion and England’s top-ranked player in her category, our pupils develop exceptional skill, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Our teams have consistently performed at a national level, including KS3 National Champions in 2021–22 and multiple top-ten finishes in both Cup and Plate competitions across all key stages from 2022 to 2025.

Coach

Fran Wallis brings over 40 years of coaching experience and 25 years representing England across age categories O35 to O60. She has earned 28 Regional Masters titles from 1998 to 2025 and reached multiple World Masters finals in 2004, 2008 and 2010. Fran was the 2008 National Over 45 Champion, twice ranked number two nationally, and holds both Lincolnshire County and Over 35 titles. Her expertise and leadership continue to inspire excellence as Lead Coach at Lincoln Minster School.

Our squash training takes place at Lindum Sports Association, featuring one glass-back court with a viewing area and two hard-back courts with balcony seating.

Lincoln Minster School are proud to have a unique and dedicated partnership with Bassline Tennis, offering pupils a tailored coaching experience with fully trained and highly skilled professionals. Sam Bass provides expert coaching through our Bassline Tennis partnership, delivering high-quality sessions tailored to each pupil’s ability and goals.
Fran Wallis also contributes her extensive coaching experience, supporting player development and performance across the tennis programme.

Tennis sessions take place at Eastgate Tennis Club, which features eight outdoor hard courts with full floodlight provision, allowing year-round play and competitive training opportunities.

Sports Ambassadors

To help support learning, we have a wide range of Sports Ambassadors who share their expertise and inspiring stories with the pupils.

Access to a wide range of excellent facilities

Our Sports Hall at the Senior site provides excellence indoor facilities complete with indoor cricket nets, as well as an array of outdoor basketball, tennis and netball facilities.

Additionally, we make use of high quality facilities in close proximity to the school, including the all-weather hockey pitch at the Lindum Sports Ground where we have exclusive daytime use during term-time and on Saturday mornings. We also have use of eight all-weather tennis courts at the Eastgate Tennis Club and make ever-increasing use of sailing facilities in Lincoln.
